Century-old chapel opened exclusively
At the foot of Castle de Haar lies the accompanying centuries-old Chapel as a last tangible reminder of the old village of Haarzuilens. From October 1,2 and 4, 2020 you can take an exclusive look inside this monument, usually closed to the public, between 12:00-15:00. Our hall guides will be happy to tell you about the glorious history of the monument.
The opening of the Chapel follows highly successful openings in 2019 and early 2020. For those who missed this unique opportunity, the Chapel is once again opening its doors!
The atmospheric Chapel is characterized by serenity and elegant simplicity. The stained glass windows, medieval statues of saints and colorful paintings create a very special atmosphere. The Chapel's existence is first mentioned around 1420.
Around 1890, Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt decided not only to have his ancestral castle rebuilt, but at the same time to have the chapel restored as a castle chapel. Master architect Pierre Cuypers first has the remains of Chapel and tower consolidated until the actual restoration is started in 1894. The choir and nave are built almost from the ground up, while in the transept old wall work is still processed. The whole is executed in neo-Gothic style. The restoration of the Chapel is completed in 1899.
The Chapel can be visited independently Oct. 1, 2 and 4 from noon to 3 pm. To visit the Chapel, simply purchase a park ticket (€6 for adults, €4 for children).
