From a young age, Sara knew she wanted to "get into acting. She took the acting course at the MBO theater school and then studied musical theater at Codarts. When asked who her great examples are, Sara does not hesitate for a moment and immediately mentions not the least of actors. "For me, Meryl Streep is an example of an actress who can really change into any character. Or Alicia Vikander, a young film actress completely of today. She is able to perform her roles very naturally each time. They are examples of two extremes, and that is precisely what appeals to me enormously."
"By dreaming, things can become reality."
Sara was featured in the children's performance The Floating City by the renowned theater company De Appel of The Hague. And she played a role in the musical theater production Spring Awakening. She still has fond memories of this originally American musical, based on Frank Wedekind's play Frühlings Erwachen. "Together with director Anouk Beugels, I was able to shape the role of Ilse in Spring Awakening completely to my own idea, which makes this role have a special meaning." During the Christmas vacations, the world-famous fairy tale of 'Hansel & Gretel' by the Brothers Grimm will be played and told. "Fairy tales are for young and old and are always relevant because of its moral. As a child, I couldn't get enough of Cinderella. Like young children, Cinderella dares to keep dreaming, something I find very important. By dreaming, things eventually become reality. That is also why children are a grateful audience to play for. They are honest and open. If it's boring you notice it right away, and if they think it's too crazy, that's also immediately obvious. And it certainly won't be boring with the fairy tale of Hansel & Gretel. The Witch's candy house? The crumb trail? Hansel's finger through the bars? In that respect, this fairy tale is one big chain of adventure. And yes, who doesn't know the slogan of the wicked witch; Nibble, nibble, nibble..." In "The Fairy Tales of De Haar," the actors, as children usually do in their own plays, play different roles. "There is nothing more fun to play different roles in a play. You switch from one character to another, which makes sure it never gets boring. During my training I practiced this often in acting classes, because the more dexterity you get in this, the easier it goes. The most important thing for me is that each character has a different background. Just like with "real people. For this I use the technique of the 5 W's; who, what, where, when and how? If you can answer all these questions, you'll be fine and you can go on the floor."
"Dreams can come true, keep dreaming!
It could hardly be otherwise. It must be wonderful for an actor to "step into a fairy tale" every day, and especially at a location that captures the imagination immensely? "As a child, I spent many afternoons at Paleis het Loo with my niece, uncle and aunt. There my niece and I would swoon away at the beautiful dresses they had on display there. Then my aunt - who is very good at sewing clothes - would say, pick out a beautiful wedding dress and I will make it for you when you get married later. Now, many years later, I get to play at such a great venue. And may I wear beautiful clothes. The fact that in the process I also celebrate my birthday on Christmas Eve makes my "fairy tale Christmas" complete. So you see, dreams can come true. Keep dreaming!
