Update 4 from the studio

Restoration of 'The Reixach'
December 2023

There is news from the studio where our "enthroned Madonna and Child" by Joan Reixach is being restored. Work has been hard and we are happy to share the latest findings and news. Scroll on quickly and discover the latest developments.

We can report from a reliable source that the altarpiece has been gloriously restored. Later overpainting has been removed and details in fabrics and angel wings have been beautifully reconstructed. The exact work and findings of material engineering studies will be shared here as soon as they become available.

To view the restored panel, we still have to be patient. But we are very happy to spare it, because in the fall of 2024 "The Reixach" will be the shining centerpiece of a special exhibition at Museum Catharijneconvent.

Castle de Haar is very honored by this. By isolating the work from the oh so beautiful, but crowded castle interior, it can be admired much better. At the right height, with the right light.

But that is not all, as Museum Catharijneconvent will also exhibit a selection from the other ensemble of Spanish paintings from the collection of Kasteel de Haar. This 'altarpiece in parts' is also of Spanish origin but its maker is as yet unknown.
