Walking route: through the eyes of Copijn

1 October until 30 November

Those who enjoy a leisurely autumn walk can discover the gardens through the eyes of garden architect Copijn. In a free, marked walking route nature, history and architecture come together. The walk takes you past the most beautiful spots of the castle gardens, where you can learn more about Copijn's garden design and thinking. Through signs along the route and a handy online guide you will discover special stories. For example, did you know that Copijn had hundreds of full-grown trees transported from all over the Netherlands to De Haar? You will learn during this walk!

The gardens of Copijn

When the castle was rebuilt, the park and gardens were to be at least as impressive as the castle. Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt engaged the famous garden architect Hendrik Copijn in 1895.

Copijn came from a nationally known family of nurserymen and garden architects and was one of the most famous garden architects of the 19th century. For De Haar he realized a romantic English landscape park with pleasure gardens and geometric French style gardens, with the castle as the radiant centerpiece.
